Follow up visit with physican today

I saw my new physician for a follow up today. It didn't go as well as I'd hoped but we both got out of there without hurting one another. No really, I like her and she's thorough but she's a tad arrogant and I have a problem with that.

Truly, telling me that I cant't take Novolin N and Novolog 70/30 without giving me a reason and finally in exasperation saying,"Because I went to medical school!" isn't cool. Lady, that medical degree doesn't help me one bit if you can't or won't answer a question.

At any rate, she finally did give me a reasonable answer after I told her her degree wasn't nearly as important to me as my blood sugar. So now I'm going to take 20 units of Novolin each morning and night and Novolog prior to meals. The problem I have is this: how much Novolog to shoot? That's been a question that's nagged me since I first started on insulin and since no physician would ever actually answer it, shooting insulin has been a crapshoot for me. She said to start with 1 unit for every 10 grams of carbohydrate and increase accordingly. Ummm, okay....

We've decided get a summer membership to the Institute for Healthy Living, a local hospital run fitness and wellness facility. We toured the place a few months ago but never got around to joining and after my appointment this morning, Rod and I decided to stop talking about joining the place and to actually join it. I have serious insulin resistance and exercise will help that so I'm going to commit to working out there at least four times a week, more if I can and am able.

Of course, considering my age, weight, and health status, my idea of a work out and yours, dear reader, may very well not be the same. I'll start with walking the indoor track and some time in the resistance pool and will let progress lead me as it will. If I can get to the point of being able to spend half an hour or so at a time on the horrendous looking machines there, great. If not, I'll keep doing what I can until something changes. The absolute least I can do is walk and use the resistance pool and just those two things will help.

So there you have it, my follow up with my doctor this morning. Keep me in your prayers, please. I need all of those I can get.

You are in my prayers! I'm glad you and that lady with the medical degree compromised.

I really need to start exercising. I really do. I have a desk job. I sit all day. I'm not really overweight, but I do need to put some activity into my life.

Let us all know how the membership works out!
